Racial Discrimination Has Been A Chronic Problem - 854 Words

One of man kind’s most baffling imperfections is discrimination. For some reason most men cannot accept that it is okay to be different from each other and also, that being different does not make one person less than. Throughout history racial discrimination has been a chronic problem. African’s were sought after as the premium slave. Racial slavery was a global trade that lasted for hundreds of years. When America was formed slavery transferred over to the new country. In America there were supporters of slavery and people who were strongly against it. This disagreement divided the country and caused American’s to go to war against each other. America was divided in half, filled with two different types of people who had strongly contrasting opinions. This divide in the country could be seen geographically, the northern states versus the southern states. The northern states were filled with abolitionist’s who were against slavery, while the southern stat es were filled with slaveholders; who would fight tooth and nail to keep their ability to own slaves. As America started to expand and obtain more territories, arguments arose over the new land’s classification. In the 1800’s there were a series of laws to try to find a resolution to this great divide. These laws were trial and error, some seemed to help while others were like salt in a wound; agitating the people even more. The first of many was the Missouri Compromise in 1820.
